Friday Things to Know – August 9, 2024
Good evening, Morey Families, and Happy Friday! Welcome to your first Friday Things to Know of the 24-25 School Year. Our Friday Things to Know is our weekly school-to-home communication that will typically be sent out to email and text at 6pm. If one parent is not receiving it and wants to be receiving it then they can contact Ms. Ashley in the Morey Main Office to review the contact information we have for the student in the Portal.
A huge thanks to our Friends of Morey leaders for organizing the “popsicles in the park” event this week. We hope parents and students made some great new connections or perhaps saw some familiar faces. More opportunities to meet other Morey families will happen next week at our Back to School BBQ! Now here’s your Friday Things to Know:
Thing 1: Registration Info
A huge thank you to everyone who has completed Online Registration, or In-Person Registration this week. Reminder that if you have not registered your student you can register online through the Parent Portal. Your student can not start school until they are registered here at Morey. Please get this done as soon as possible. Here is a guide to help the process of registering your student.
Thing 2: Back to School BBQ
All 24-25 School Year Morey families are invited to our barbeque on Thursday, August 15th from 5:00-6:30 on the Morey blacktop. Please RSVP HERE by Monday so we can have enough food! The BBQ is also when students can get a paper copy of their schedules. If your family cannot attend the barbecue, schedules go ‘live’ in Portal on Thursday. Note: as enrollment continues to occur at Morey, schedules are in ‘draft form’ up until the first week of school.
Thing 3: Reminder of Welcome Letter with Many Links!!

Thing 5: Dryer Needed!
The Athletics and PE Department at Morey is in need of a new dryer. If you have one to donate please let Ms. Wickham know at courtney_wickham@dpsk12.net. Thank you!
Thing 6: Meet Our New Morey Educators
Our new Morey staff came together this Thursday for our annual Moreyentation. It’s truly a terrific group of professionals! Learn about each one of them HERE!
Thing 7: Ways to Welcome Back Staff on Monday 8/12
If your family would like to contribute to welcoming back our staff this coming Monday 8/12, please share any contributions–food, drinks, or notes– you would like to make HERE. Principal Wickham thanks you!!!
Thing 8: Upcoming Events
- August 12: Teachers and Special Service Providers Return to Work
- August 15: Back to School BBQ 5:00-6:30 @ Morey
- August 19: First Day of School for 6th graders and New-to-Morey 7th/8th graders
- August 20: ALL Students come to school!
- August 23: Fun Friday for All Students (ON campus activities to celebrate the start of the year–more details will be shared next week)
- September 2-3: NO SCHOOL for Morey Students (Labor Day Holiday and Morey Educator Data Day)
- September 18: Back to School Night @ Morey 5:30-7:00
